The Viroqua Community band came to town and C-FAB (Cashton Fine Arts Booster) took the opportunity to provide food while raising some funds. Despite it being one of the haziest days in the area this Summer, baseball players took the field while the Viroqua Community band performed a variety of pieces from movie soundtracks to John Philip Sousa classics. Guests and band members trickled in during a social hour with brats, burgers, chips, refreshments, and a variety of desserts being sold. To help with the food, C-FAB received donations from Grandma’s Bakery, Hansen’s IGA, and VonRuden Meats. Ann Klinkner, a prime member of C-FAB, states that “We try to keep things local and promote local business”, as opposed to buying the food for fundraisers and concession events in bulk from corporations. Matthew Muraski, a member of both the Viroqua Community band and C-FAB, due to his role as the middle and high school band teacher, was the first to suggest providing food for their performance at one of the regular C-FAB meetings. This is the second year they have done so.
Working the concession stands at Cashton home football games will be C-FAB’s next fundraising opportunity. Their primary goal is to support the fine arts, and their funds go to doing just that. They donated $1,000 two years in a row to the school for coach bus travel costs and continue to offer a $500 grant to any student in the area, including home schooled students, who intend to put the money toward a project, activity, or event in “the areas of art, music, and drama” as stated on their online application.
The group is always looking for more parents to get involved in their efforts and also hopes to eventually reinstate an official fine arts banquet at the school. Such an event would involve middle and high school art performances, a potluck, and awards, but the biggest issue thus far has been scheduling. Especially due to sporting events inevitably getting rescheduled at different times throughout the Spring, it’s very difficult to keep a reliable non-conflicting date for the banquet.
