On Friday night, July 7th, 2023, at approximately 9:00 PM, the Vernon County Sheriff's Office received a report of an incident involving a horse-drawn vehicle “buggy” on private property, along County Road NN, rural Viroqua, WI, in the town of Franklin. A child, age 8, was at play on the roof of the buggy while it was parked in a private driveway, along the east side of County Road NN, just north of Getter Road. Another child was seated in the buggy and the horse took off abruptly for a short distance and stopped. The child was thrown from the top of the buggy and momentarily became unconscious. Initial reports were that he may have been ran over, but it did not appear that occurred. Responding to the scene were the Vernon County Sheriff's Office, Viroqua Fire Department, Viroqua Emergency Responders, and Ocooch Mountain Rescue. The patient declined transport. The scene was clear by 9:30 PM.
