Events slated for the Fourth of July

While Cashton may not have an official celebration, there are plenty of activities around the area to get into the Independence Day spirit this Thursday, July 4.

ONTARIO

In Ontario on Wednesday, July 3, there will be a Rendezvous on the Kickapoo on Cty Hwy P at the public canoe landing. The rendezvous will feature 1700’s era reenactment of campers and fur traders.

Later that day, a kids and pet parade will start at 6 p.m. The theme is ‘Disney’ and registration will start at 5:30 p.m. in the Fire Station pavilion. A talent and open mic show will start at 7 p.m. on the deck.

On July 4, a pancake breakfast in the pavilion will kick off the day from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. There will be a ‘Run for Fun’ 5k starting at 8 a.m., with a one mile kids run at 9 a.m. Registration for the fifth annual Ontario Car Show will run from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $5 per car, with trophies awarded at 2 p.m.

At 11 a.m., the Legion Chicken Q will start serving across from the pavilion.

The parade starts at noon.

There will be a myriad of afternoon activities, like inflatables, kid’s games, and food and craft vendors.

The Brookwood Band will play on the deck at 1 p.m. BINGO will take place in the pavilion at 2 p.m, as well as the MiniPullers Garden Tractor Pull by the fire station. At 3 p.m., the Legion Auxiliary will draw for the raffle winner.

The Duck Race will take place at 4 p.m. on Brush Creek, starting on the Lincoln St. bridge.

Kid’s softball games will also start at 4 p.m. The pedal tractor pull begins at 5 p.m, and live music from Dave Rogers and the Tonebenders Band is slated for 6:30 p.m.

Fireworks are scheduled to begin around 9:30 p.m.  Fireworks have been re-scheduled for July 6

On Saturday, July 6, the Farm & Antique Tractor Pull will start at 11 a.m. Saturday is also the rain date for fireworks in case weather isn’t cooperative on Thursday night.

WESTBY

On the north side of Westby, fireworks will be set off from the new industrial park just off of Hwy 27 at dusk. Fireworks have been rescheduled for July 6.

VIROQUA

The annual Marcia Andrew Strawberry Shortcake Social will take place on Thursday, July 4 from 1 p.m to 5 p.m. at the Sherry-Butt House. The $6 ticket includes dessert, house tour, and live music from Viroqua Community Band, the Old-Time String Band, and Jay Hoffman and Kevin Dohse.

Viroqua’s annual display of fireworks will take off from the Vernon County Fairgrounds at 9:30 p.m. Firework have been postponed with no date announced.

SPARTA

A new event this year in Sparta is the Fourth of July Bicycle Parade & Social. It begins at 10 a.m. with bike decorating at Ben Bikin’ Park, with a short parade through Evans-Bosshard Park to the Community Garden. An ice cream social will follow at 11:30 in Evans-Bosshard Park.

Sparta Parks and Recreation is hosting fireworks in Memorial Park, with concessions opening at 8 p.m. Fireworks have been re-scheduled to July 5.

TOMAH

Tomah will be a busy place for the Fourth of July. St. Paul Evangelical Church is hosting a free patriotic concert at 9:30 a.m.

The annual parade will begin at 10 a.m. on Superior Ave.

After the parade, there will be a barbeque at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church starting at 11 a.m., while First United Methodist Church will be hosting a pie and ice cream social and brat and hot dog lunch until 1 p.m.

Tomah’s Downtown Thursday Nights kicks off the summer concert series with the Ashley Wineland Band from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. It is also Military Appreciation night. The concert takes place on the 800 and 900 blocks of Superior Ave.

Fireworks will wrap up the day at Recreation Park around 9:30 p.m. Fireworks have been re-scheduled to July 5.

LA CROSSE

In downtown La Crosse, at Riverside Park, is the annual Riverfest.

The event runs from July 3–6 and includes food, arts & craft vendors, amateur wrestling, magicians, live music, and much more.

Fireworks are slated for 9:40 p.m. over the Mississippi River. Fireworks have been re-scheduled to July 5.
